All That She Carried: The Journey of Ashley’s Sack, A Black Family Keepsake by Tiya Miles (2021)
As Dr. Miles' research assistant and collaborator for some many years, I am thrilled to have played a small part in the research and production towards this work, which won the 2021 National Book Award for Non-Fiction. For the art lovers out there, don’t miss “Carrying Capacity,” a short visual essay that we cowrote and curated for All That She Carried that places Ashley’s sack in conversation with the works of contemporary Black artists. Featured artists include: Leticia Huckaby, Sonya Clark, Sanford Biggers, Rosie Lee Tompkins, Kelly Taylor Mitchell, Angela Hennessy, and Deja Milany
